Baccarat Guide

Baccarat

Baccarat (Pronounced Ba-Ca-Ra) is a casino card game which is popular with high rollers. It is a very simple game to play in the fact that you only have to make one of three choices. Either bet on Player, Banker or Tie.

The good news is that both the player and banker bets have a low house edge which make baccarat a great game to play.

Note About Online Baccarat

At land-based casinos there are often two types of baccarat games. The first is usually in a roped off area and is the classic version of baccarat where the players get to deal the cards. The second version is known as Mini Baccarat where you play at a regular style casino table and the dealer ALWAYS deals. Online you will only find Mini Baccarat tables even though many casinos do have multi-player tables the dealer deals all.

Playing Baccarat Online

You begin a baccarat game by placing a bet on either Player, Banker Or Tie. Then two hands are dealt, one for the player and one for the banker. Quite simply the hand that is closer to 9 wins. However there are instances where a third card is dealt, we cover those hands further on in this guide.

Card Values in Baccarat

All face cards ( J,Q,K ) and tens are worth zero, Aces are worth 1 and the remaining cards are worth their face value. If the value of the cards dealt is over 10 then 10 is taken from the total. Example : The following cards are dealt, 4 & 8. The total is 12 so the hand Value is  2

The "Third Card Rule"

Once the initial two cards have been dealt for the dealer and the player the "Third Card Rule" comes into effect. You as the player have no decision to make as the cards are dealt according to the following rules.

When the Player and Banker hands equal the same total, the hand is declared a Tie. If the value of the cards in either the Player's Hand or the Banker's Hand is an 8 or a 9  (a "natural") after receiving their initial two cards then no more cards shall be dealt to either hand.

If the value of the cards in the Banker's hand on the first two cards is 0 to 7 inclusive, the Player's hand shall draw in accordance with the "Third Card Rules"

If the players hand equals 0 to 5 another card is dealt, if the had equals 6 to 7 no additional card is dealt, if the hand equal 8 to 9 both hands stand.

Once the players hand is finished according to the above rules the bankers hand is finalized. If the bankers hand equals 0 to 2 the banker gets an additional card, if the bankers hand equals 3 to 6 the players third card determines the whether the banker draws or stands and if the dealer has 7 the dealer stands.

  • When the bankers hand equals between 3 and 6
  • If the banker has 3 : Banker draws if player has 1 to 7 and 9
  • If the banker has 4 : Banker draws if player has 2 to 7
  • If the banker has 5 : Banker draws if player has 4,5,6 and 7
  • If the banker has 6 : Banker draws if player has 6 and 7
  • If the banker has 7 : Banker stands
  • If the banker has 8 or 9 : Banker stands
